How to Stay Successful at Curves

Hi Tammy here,  I have been with Curves for 7 years. Here is what I know for sure. Tips on how to be successful at Curves.

1. Don't expect results in one day. It takes 21 days to form a habit. You should see firming up in your first month.

2. Workout with a friend/family member. You will be more accountable especially if you are having an off day and don't feel like working out.

3. Warm up your first 6 stations. Work the machines as fast as you can to truly over load your muscles. This should elevate your heart rate for at least 20 minutes of your workout. Cool down your last 6 stations. If you are on smart it will say"easy" on warm up and "cool" on cool down.

4. Make your workout number one priority of your day. If you do 3 workouts a week you will do fine. If you want to jump start your metabolism workout 5-6 days a week.

5. Make sure you alternate your days of true strength training. Other wise you will experience burn out!!!! Your muscles need time to heal.

6. Stay positive. What you put into Curves is what you get out of it.

7. Try the new Weight Management Classes at your club. They are only 2 hours long and with the new guide you will truly change your life. Even if you do not need to lose weight it is still a great class to learn how to eat properly. Our teacher has lost 50 pounds on this plan.

8. There will be days you don't "feel" like working out. Just remember how good you feel when the endorphins kick in when you're done working out.

9. When a Curves trainer corrects you, it is because we want you to get your best bang for your buck.

10. Try a demo if the Curves Smart. If you think you were working hard then think again. It is like having a personal trainer at each station to MOTIVATE YOU and give you instant feedback.

11. Our machines are a function of speed. Are you going fast enough? If you are injury free and in good health, when the cue person tells you to "change stations now" you should feel like the earth has moved.

12. If you ever need help, ask a Trainer. If you have a injury that needs rehabilitation, ask a trainer to help you with a modification on the machines.

13. Did you know our workout has all the components of a workout? Warm-up,sustained cardio, strength training, cool down and stretching.

14. Hold all stretches for 15 seconds each muscle group. Stretching helps elongate your muscles and eliminates soreness.

15. Try our Curves protein shakes. They are $24.00 and if you consume them within half an hour of working out, they will help with weight loss. When you are strength training you need to increase your protein intake.

16. Walking is great but you need to strength train to increase your muscle mass, decrease bone density loss, increase energy, and increase your metabolism. The more muscle you have, will equate to a higher metabolism which will help you look leaner and lose weight.  If you do the Curves workout, you will have cardio and strength training at the same time. If you wish to add walking to your routine we encourage 30 minutes a day. Did you know that when you strength train you burn calories at rest?

17.  Once you warm up, be sure to workout in the appropriate heart rate zone. Check out the heart rate charts in the club. We have a chart for the steppers and a chart for a manual check. Most members who are healthy should be in the 70%-85% range. Your heart rate should be sustained for about 20 minutes of your workout.
